The Role: Head of Streetworks (NRSWA)

Salary: £60- 75,000 plus 15% bonus, healthcare

We are looking to recruit a NRSWA focused Head of Streetworks, ideally from the telecoms sector (But we’ve got flexibility to consider highways / utilities) who can support new client side network build programmes across the UK. This is a flexible working model, and you’ll own the function that will focus on the streetworks / compliance aspect of the build.

It’s a brand new role and the build hasn’t started yet, so it’s a great chance to join and put the plans in place to build a scalable function that will initially focus on the West Midlands and then scale across the UK.

This will be working for a rapid growth full fibre network owner who are coming at things with a different slant.

This group will be focused on the compliance side of the build, so inspecting the quality of civils and subsequent reinstatement and then working with the contractors to see that quality is of the required standard. You’ll own all aspects of defects, signing, lighting and guarding (SLG) and general traffic management issues both from a day to day quality angle but also all associated permitting (Through the team of streetwork managers and streetworks co-ordinators).

The aim of the group, is to work with / educate the contractors so your team will talk to the gangs / contractors and work with them but with the build being brand new, it’s a great chance to draw the line in the sand from day one, set the expectation and hopefully run a best in class streetworks function as you won’t be trying to reverse engineer bad habits and existing ideas.

Compliance / quality is key and it’s following legislation / guidelines in accordance with NRSWA, Traffic Management Act and the Highways Act.

Your background:

This is a senior level, national HOD so it is taken that read that you are going to blend that expert knowledge as to all things streetworks alongside the ability to build, and own a national function. It’ll be your team, and how this will work will largely be driven by you and if you work on the basis of the start up mentality (But backed by one of the World’s leading infrastructure investment funds) then you want be far wrong so it’s that blend of spinning plates at the beginning but with the goal of building a best in class, scalable model alongside the other experts from around the telecoms infrastructure industry that are in the process of joining the business.

Flexible on location, with a common sense approach of being where you need to be but a good chunk of the time will be working from home so we are open minded as to where you base.

Key point is the chance to join the business fairly early, help to play a part in the scalability and process and then hopefully be in a strong position in the coming future as they continue to grow in the UK but with a strong eye on the West Midlands programme area.
