Quantity Surveyor

Flexible working, occasional travel to East Midlands.

Package: £55,000 base plus car allowance and 10%

We’re looking for a quantity surveyor to come and join a tier one contractor building telecoms FTTP networks across the UK.

Assigned to this specific customer business stream, the company have been winning a lot of build and delivery work so need additional QS resource to ensure effective cost management of the tier 2 contractors, and ensuring everything is flowing smoothly by way of claims into the client.

We’re looking for someone with excellent Commercial acumen and a proven track record delivering commercially sound utility / telecoms or constructions projects.

You are going to be responsible for detailed cost control and recovery of value on the project, working for a tier one contractor on a multiple year telecoms FTTP build across the Midlands.

Reporting to the commercial manager, you’ll be focusing on this one client build programme, and it’s fibre in the ground using a hybrid PIA and new build model. You’ll manage the client, and contract partners and it’s NEC4 contract.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrable post graduate quantity surveying experience in a similar position with a main contractor or client within telecoms, utilities or civils.

In depth knowledge of NEC contracts (4 ideally) along with CEMAR.

Typical duties will include:

  • Establishing the project budget including the allocation of cost codes to ensure detailed and accurate cost reporting is achieved.
  • Review of main contract and subcontract terms and conditions, inclusive of stepping down conditions from main contract to subcontract.
  • Procurement of subcontract packages including compilation of tender documentation.
  • The detailed and transparent process of reporting on costs to date and forecasting cost to completion.
  • Administration of the main contract and subcontracts, including compilation of contractual correspondence in relation to delays and associated loss and expense.
  • Regular liaison and interface with the Employers team for the purposes of progressing the commercial aspects of the project.
  • The day to day managing of staff resources to ensure the projects costs are known and managed effectively.
  • Carrying out delay analysis including the preparation of narratives and loss and expense to support claim submissions.
  • Handling subcontract issues as they arise.
  • Ensuring the variation / compensation event mechanism is correctly and timeously followed to ensure the commercial protection of the business.
  • Forecasting of cash flow / budget compilation.
  • Liaising with procurement to set and agree allowances for the project.
  • Attending progress / commercial meetings and representing the company in a commercial capacity.

Flexible working is in place, with occasional travel to the project base located in the Northamptonshire area.
